EDCT 5011 was designed with specific course objectives that it was my responsibility to meet. Below are these objectives and how I have met them.
3.b. Maintain and manage a variety of digital tools and resources for teacher and student use in technology-rich learning environments.
Throughout this course I created a digital toolbox of applications that are both resources for me and for my students. These different applications include: ClassDojo, the Teacher's Starter Kit, iCivics, iTunes U, eduClipper, iMovie, TEDtalks, Edmodo, GamesForChange, GeoGuessr, Mission US, and DocsTeach. This Weebly page I have created will allow me to maintain and manage these applications as well as add on to this list anytime I discover new and useful apps.
3.e. Troubleshoot basic software, hardware, and connectivity problems common in digital learning environments.
I learned how to troubleshoot different software problems through my experiences with GoogleHangouts and the screen-share function. I was able to troubleshoot hardware problems when my wireless router failed during one of the GoogleHangout sessions. Connectivity problems were more difficult to troubleshoot especially since my internet connection was the main problem. However, I solved this problem by reseting my router. Once I did that my internet connection improved.
3.f. Select and evaluate digital tools and resources that enhance teaching and learning and are compatible with the school technology infrastructure.
I selected tool such as iCivics, Mission US, DocsTeach, iMovie, TEDtalks, Games4Change, GeoGuessr, and iTunesU to enhance learning. All of these applications are compatible with interactive whiteboards and standard projectors which can be connected to the standard desktop computer that every teacher has. Apps like ClassDojo, Edmodo, and the variety of Apps in the Teacher's Starter Kit enhance my teaching ability and are compatible with a school wifi connection so that I am able to use these apps at school from my tablet. The readings, like Mobile Media Learning and The NMC Horizon Report, introduced me to more possibilities for technology that can be used in the school since they explored new technologies that are available in the field.
5.c. Use digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community.
Edmodo allows me to communicate with students and peers through the creation of specific classes for students and the ability to join different communities of teachers. ClassDojo allows me to connect with parents by giving them the opportunity to stay connected with their student's behavior while they are at school. iMovie and it's sharing feature allow me to share students work on a global level as well as allowing the students to communicate ideas on a global scale.
6.a. Demonstrate independent and continual learning to deepen content and pedagogical knowledge in technology integration and current and emerging technologies.
I met this objective based on my continuing exploration of this field. Every time I scroll through the Apple AppStore I am continuously looking for new technologies to add to my digital toolbox. I am also continuing to expand on my knowledge of applications I have already examined, like iMovie. I am accomplishing this by trying to complete an video centered around the Cold War for use in the classroom. I will also be able to continue my improvement in this field by keeping up with the yearly Horizon Report on emerging technologies.
