App 3: iMovie
iMovie is an amazing program that I can see using in my classroom a lot. I have used iMovie before in a very limited capacity. I made a slideshow of family vacation photos in it, but this was the first time I had attempted to make a movie trailer. It was so easy! You get to select your own pre-formatted trailer theme and then customize it. I chose the adventure theme for my trailer.
Once you select the theme all you have to do is drag and drop the images or video that you want into the places that you want it. iMovie does most of the work by separating the clips with bumpers and pre-editing the clip times. For my exploration of the program I used photos from my trip to Paris as I did not have the largest amount of video clips to choose from. The trailer is at the bottom of the page as a YouTube clip!
In this stage you can also edit what each of the bumper cards says so that they are personalized to what you want. This program would be amazing to use in the classroom. I could use it as a project and have students make film trailers about different historical events like the American Revolution and historical figures like Martian Luther King Jr. It allows students to be as creative as they can possibly be, which is a huge advantage in a social studies classroom where the material can quickly become dull and uninteresting. I personally can't wait to see what my students can do with this!
